In 2017 following our success with the Young Musicians Songwriting labs, we set about starting a project based around adult songwriters.

 

In November 2017 we started the SoSlam Songwriters Club. A monthly club night for adults 18+ at London Road Studios.

 

On the nights we invite guest musicians working in the industry to give showcases and deliver workshops to help develop the members songwriting skills and experience. We run regular open mics for members to showcase their new material and encourage collaboration. The emphasise is around songwriting so you don't need to play an instrument, or sing as the club incorporates enough variety in the skill set of its members and facilitators to support any ability or experience that members have.

 

From complete novice, to covers king, to mid life guitarist!

 

Members sign up between November - December each year and then we close membership for the year so we can work with the group over the next 12 months. Having a set number of members for the year helps us plan activities. In addition to the monthly club nights we plan showcases (usually 2 a year), a live radio performance, recording time in the studio and gigs at local events for those that have developed sufficient in confidence and ability. All members get to record one of their original songs for our Songwriters album. Volume 1 was recorded and released in 2018 and available on Spotify.
